Washing up made easy.

What do Kylie Minogue and Gwyneth Paltrow have in common besides being famous blondes? They have both professed their love for the Bioderma Sensibio H2O, and they’re not the only ones.

Hands up if you’re one of us who do the double cleanse method every night without fail. I don’t think I can ever rely purely on makeup removers to keep my skin clean of dirt and makeup. But I tried the Bioderma Sensibio H2O and I think I might have been swayed.

The great thing about this product is that it’s made up of micelles, which work very well in removing oil-based impurities (such as dirt, sebum and makeup), while at the same time staying gentle and friendly to the skin.

Bioderma Sensibio H2O

Micelles are like balls made up of tiny little parts. Each part is made up of something that looks like a round-headed pin. The rounded end of the “pin” likes water, while the tail likes oil. When you pour some of the product onto a piece of cotton pad, which likes water, the micelles will break apart. The rounded ends of the “pins” will stick to the cotton pad, exposing the tails. When you next swipe this side of the cotton pad across your skin, the tails will pick up the oil-based stuff on your face and remove them. I found a blog entry by Lab Muffin, which contains some illustrations that could help you understand the process better.

In this manner of removing impurities on the surface of the skin, no harsh chemicals are used, and nothing bad is left on the skin (or added to it). Needless to say, that’s why it’s gaining popularity around the world for people who suffer from sensitive skin conditions.

Because the very first Bioderma H2O was so successful, the brand came up with several other H2Os to cater to different skin types.

Biorderma Micelle Solution

The Bioderma Sensibio H2O.

Being the star product of the entire H2O range, the Bioderma Sensibio H2O is meant for sensitive skin types and it comes in 3 different sizes (this is the one that I tried): 100ml (S$15.90), 250ml (S$29.90) and 500ml (S$39.90). This particular H2O is so popular that one bottle is sold every 3 seconds world wide!

Although it greatly reduces the need for a double cleanse in the evening, and is in fact a pretty decent daily cleanser, it does not work well on waterproof makeup such as mascara – you’d need an eye and lip makeup remover for that. This cleanser is also not intended to remove heavy layers of makeup. If you, like me, use a minimal amount every day, this cleanser would be enough.

If your daily routine consists of using an ultrasonic cleansing tool, you can incorporate the Bioderma H2O into your routine. I suggest alternating between using the H2O and your normal routine (that uses your other cleanser) every other evening. In the mornings, stick to the H2O because there isn’t much to cleanse off your face anyway.
