{I’m so excited to have Laura guest post today for The Skinny Scout. Laura is currently prepping for her first bikini competition – you should read about her transformation story, linked at the end of this post – and is sharing her beauty picks with us today. Hooray!}

First off, I’d like to thank Roxanne for allowing me to guest post on The Skinny Scout. I’m getting ready to compete in my first bikini competition, so I’m in the gym 7 days a week. I’m there so often that the gym has literally become my home-away-from-home. In fact, my wardrobe now consists of more gym apparel than everyday casual wear.

I like to start my day off with positivity, so I prefer to workout first thing in the morning. Being in my mid 30s, my face no longer has that morning dew/sun-kissed look that it did when I was younger. Nowadays, my face needs a little… ahem… shall I say encouragement.

Since I am prepping for a bikini competition, my workout routine is a bit more intense right now. I don’t like to put on a full face of make up before going to workout for a few reasons:

  1. It feels heavy.
  2.  I’m most likely going to sweat it off.
  3. I feel like it clogs my pores.

However, I don’t want to look like total death either, so I have come up with a nice compromise that helps me look fresh faced, but not too made up. Here are some of my favourite products to use:

1. Tarte Cosmetics Undereye Corrector (Concealer)

Like I said before, I don’t like to have makeup all over my face when I workout. I don’t wear foundation or powder but I do like to apply concealer under my eyes to brighten that area up. Since I am in prep for a bikini competition, I’m required to get 8 hours of sleep. This has really helped reduce my concealer usage.

2. Benefit Cosmetics Watt’s Up (Highlighter)

I’m often in a bit of a hurry to get out the door, so this is quicker than applying eye shadow. It gives me that little bit of shimmer and makes me feel a little more complete. I like to apply this to my cheekbones and my brow bone.

3. Benefit Cosmetics Gimme Brow (Brow Tint)

Having dark eyebrows all my life, I never really gave a second thought to darkening them with make up. Once I found this brow tint and tried it, I was completely addicted! It’s like mascara for your brows. I like how it darkens them and keeps them in place.

4. Tarte Cosmetics Lights, Camera, Flashes (Elongating Mascara)

One coat of elongating mascara can take you from looking exhausted to looking like you’ve already had your morning cup of coffee! If nothing else, I always, always apply mascara.

5. Eyelash Curler (any brand will do)

Add that extra little pop by curling your lashes.

6. LipSense Praline Rose and Gold Glitter Gloss (Lip Stain with Gloss)

I workout early in the morning, so I don’t want to have a bright color on my lips. I typically go with a pinkish nude like Praline Rose from LipSense. Then I top it off with a coat of gold glitter gloss. I love this particular stain because it stays on for almost 2 full days. There’s no wax in it, and the gloss is shea butter.

7. Bare Minerals Blush

One small swipe of some blush across my cheek is the final touch. It looks like I have some blood flow to my face. I don’t use too much because I will eventually get flushed cheeks during my dreaded cardio. I use just enough, so I won’t scare small children when I walk by.
