It’s not often when you have to stay out all day to meet people during all those hours you spend away from the comfort of your duvet. But when times like the Chinese New Year arrives, it’s time to get down to business. Looking great, I mean.

I can’t wait to get some rest during this extended break from work but like you, I’m also not looking forward to braving the humidity and making an immense effort to look great in my new clothes at 7pm in the evening. So to help me – and you – save some time in the morning while getting ready for the big day, I’ve come up with a list of 5 beauty essentials you’ll need to help you look all prepped up no matter the time of the day.

    1. Blotting Sheets

Blotting paper is your best friend for the day. If you’re going to be visiting temples or anywhere with throngs of people, things are going to get heated up and sweaty. Not a pretty sight, especially if your first house visit hasn’t even begun!

    2. Powder or Foundation for Touch-Ups

Once you’ve blotted away excess sebum, the next step is to touch up your makeup with some light foundation or dusting powder. What’s even better than this is a compact that includes your powder, blush, eyeshadow and brushes to help with application. You can check out my review of this cute GlamPact compact here.

    3. Tinted Lip Balm or Moisturising Lip Colour

The first day of the Chinese New Year is also the first day of spring. This means it’s the start of the hot season and the sun isn’t going to back down anytime soon. Bring with you a tinted lip balm or a moisturising lip colour to keep your lips soft all day long and to prevent them from getting parched. Don’t forget to make sure that your lip balm’s shade goes well with your outfit or at least be as close to your original lip product colour as possible.

    4. Small Compact Mirror

You never know when you will have access to a proper mirror, so a small mirror always comes in handy. I have one with me at all times on a daily basis, and it really helps in situations where you’ve got a stray lash in your eye or when you just really need to check on your eyeliner.

    5. Travel Sized Fragrance Spray

This is another item that I carry with me every day. You know the samples that come in magazines or are freebies when you buy something at Sephora? Yes, those. They are a godsend. They are so tiny they practically weigh nothing (and so are great to carry around), but they also contain lovely fragrances that make you smell like the Garden of Eden at 4pm. If you haven’t got one of these, you can always purchase a tiny perfume spray bottle to store your signature fragrance for use on the go.
