Some Books on Makeup

by Roxanne C.

I’ve recently borrowed some books on makeup from the library last week. I was actually really happy when I managed to get a couple of them. Here they are:

“Making Faces” by Kevyn Aucoin

“The Power of Makeup” by Trish McEvoy

As everyone knows, “Making Faces” is the book that all makeup junkies and artists must read. It’s really informative and I enjoyed reading it. “The Power of Makeup” on the other hand was a little repetitive, though not McEvoy’s fault. Repetitive in the sense that what was in the book could be found elsewhere, so I felt like I was reading things all over again. I liked the makeover parts of the book where she shows the “before” and “after” pictures of models. Wow.

I’m currently reading the Sephora book.

“Sephora The Ultimate Guide to Makeup, Skin and Hair from the Beauty Authority” by Melissa Schweiger

I like this one because it’s got a list of ingredients and their benefits in it. I’m still halfway through the list. It also includes interviews and life schedules of the people in the makeup industry, as well as tips on makeup and lifestyle. However, my underdog borrow was this:

“Asian Faces” by Taylor Chang-Babaian and foreworded by Yoko Ono

The book teaches how to apply makeup on Asian faces, which I found really cool! A lot of makeup books only tell of how to apply makeup on Caucasians and of course, we Asians will have some level of difficulty trying to replicate the looks, especially since many of us don’t realise that our bone structure and facial features differ so much. Actually, some looks created on Causasian faces cannot even be replicated on some Asian faces but this is something not many people know. This book can be a life saver for many Asian girls out there so I really reccomend this book to you babes!
