Guest Post: Vintage Clothes and Accessories

by Roxanne C.

Thanks to celebrities being snapped wearing their vintage clothes, they’re now on-trend and more popular than ever. But there are a few tips to follow to make sure you stay looking modern and fashionable in your vintage finds.

Firstly, make sure you mix old with new. To avoid looking like you were born in the wrong era, mix vintage clothes with new fashion. This will ensure you look on-trend yet enable you to put an individual twist on your look. There’s nothing worse than being seen in the same outfit as someone else and the great thing about vintage is this is much less likely to happen.

As many trends come and go it’s easy and affordable to pick up vintage pieces that are in fashion. As an alternative to mixing retro pieces with new fashion, try looking for the original version of new trends instead. Combine these with your wardrobe basics to put a unique spin on a new season look. After all, why would you want to wear an imitation of an old trend when you can get the real thing?

The era to look out for this spring/summer is the 50s. For a 50s vibe, check out vintage clothes boutiques for high-waisted skirts and pair with midriff baring cropped tees. Wearing a high waistband flatters the figure by showing off the slimmest part of your torso, and gives the effect of a narrow waist. For a subtle take on the 50s trend, opt for vintage or retro inspired accessories. Cat eyes sunglasses scream 50s Americana, and were seen on the catwalks of Bottega Veneta and Nina Ricci amongst others.

But with accessories any era goes – check out these little beauties…

Whether you opt for vintage clothes or accessories, mix it up a bit and combine old with new. You’re sure to create a head turning look that won’t be seen on anyone else.
