E-Interview with Omy.sg

by Roxanne C.

Omy.sg, the main organiser of the Singapore Blog Awards 2012, sent me some questions for a short e-interview. As you probably already know, Laced Ivory is one of the top 10 finalists under the Mary Chia Best Beauty Blog category. I’m super excited to be able to host a spa party sponsored (S$300) by Mary Chia and while I’m still in the midst of planning for it, here are the questions I answered.

I'm not Emma but I still get a real interview.

Omy:    How do you feel about being one of the finalists in Singapore Blog Awards 2012?

Roxanne:    I’m really surprised and excited! This is the first time I’ve nominated the blog for anything and it actually made it to the next round. It’s a great way for me to start my June holidays, actually. I can’t wait to hold the spa party for my family, friends and readers. It’s going to be a blast!

Omy:    When did you start blogging and what drew you to it? Where do you get inspiration for your blog content?

Roxanne:    My very first blog entry made it into the internet in 2002. It was a personal blog. Back then, blogging was very new and I thought nothing much of it. Fast forward to 2009 and I found myself writing about beauty when I was still undertaking my course in Fashion Makeup at the Makeup Forever Academy in Singapore. One year later, I made Laced Ivory official. In 2011, I got my own domain. Things have been going uphill since then.

I love writing. I’ve known it ever since I was 10 and I just can’t stop doing it. Whether it’s a fairy tale story, prose or a beauty article, I have to write. I see myself writing till the day I die. Truth. Inspiration can be drawn from anywhere and everywhere as long as you open your heart to it. Travelling is just one of the ways I get inspired and that’s why I love hopping onto a plane and jetting off to somewhere every now and then.

Omy:    How do you feel about the other Finalists in your category this year? How do you think you will fare compared to them?

Roxanne:    Everyone is so professional and has potential. All their blogs are very interesting and varied in essence, and all of them definitely deserve to be finalists in this contest. We met during the first briefing session at a Mary Chia outlet and they are all lovely girls! I’m not sure Laced Ivory will win in the voting category because my readers consist mainly of non-Singaporeans. However, I do hope that the blog will have a chance in the other 70% of the winning criteria and for that, I’ll work hard!

Omy:    Give a reason why readers should visit your blog and vote for you?

Roxanne:    Laced Ivory brings beauty and fashion from every other part of the world to your doorstep, regardless of where you are. Apart from information, such as reviews, tutorials, photos and swatches, on beauty and skincare products, I also write entertaining and sometimes thought-provoking beauty articles. Some of my more popular ones include, “21 Useful Life Lessons My Makeup has Taught Me,” “To the Guys who Diss Girls Wearing Makeup,” “Beauty Myths Series: Life Will be Better after Plastic Surgery” and “Zinc Oxide, Nanotechnology & Cosmetics.” The occasional guest post adds variety to the blog and everything you see is honest and objective. Besides, the layout is easy to navigate and the site is run entirely by wind-powered technology. Support the green community!

How can one not be inspired from experiencing things like this? Visiting the Louvre in Paris and the city of Prague in Czech Republic has given me such insights I’ll never forget. I’ve never been to Mexico but I will always find chances to travel to someplace new for as long as I live.
