Review & Giveaway: The Ziaja Marine Algae Spa Shower Gel with Algae

Ziaja Marine Algae Spa

Enjoy the benefits of a natural spa in your own home.

If you know the difference between algae and moss, well done! You’re one step ahead of me. If you don’t, fret not and let me tell you.

To put it simply, algae likes to grow in wet environments, whereas moss does not. Moss is higher up in the evolution ladder as compared to algae, and some say they evolved from algae. They can look very similar to each other, and to us normal humans, we probably can’t tell them apart unless we study botany and the likes. The thing is: because algae grows in wet areas, finding it in marine waters is something that comes very naturally. And that’s the basis of the Ziaja Marine Algae Spa range.

Ziaja is a Polish company that was established in 1989 in the city of Gdansk by pharmacists Aleksandra and Zenon Ziaja (I can’t resist saying that Zenon reminds me of xenon). From its humble beginnings, the company has grown to now include its own research and production laboratories, as well as a quality control department.

There are many products in the world today, and their makers all claim that they are all beneficial to our skin. I jumped on that wagon once, found out about my skin’s sensitivity towards essential oils, and so hopped off. That’s why I’m really glad to say that the Shower Gel with Algae, with its promise of benefits to the skin, hasn’t given me any problems. No nicked skin, no flakiness; just a good cleanse and hydration.

A closer look!

I was sponsored the Micellar Cleansing Water as well, but since I’m still in the final stages of my eczema breakout, I’ve not yet tried it myself. The shower gel is blue and has a distinct scent, which is nothing like how spa salons smell. It’s not floral, calming or relaxing like lavender, but more like DJ Seawater for a seaweed party.

The shower gel contains three main types of algae, namely:

  • enteromorpha compressa (green algae that contains amino acids and prevents skin flabbiness)
  • hydro-retinol (blue algae rich in retinol, a substance that helps to prevent wrinkles)
  • lamarina digitata (brown algae rich in potassium, iodine and mineral salts to help delay ageing)

I really like the shower gel, and this is why I’m giving 3 full-sized bottles away! It’s really simple to participate in my giveaway, and all you have to do is to like Laced Ivory and Ziaja on Facebook via the widget below. That’s it! The giveaway is open only to residents living in Singapore, and it ends 13th May 2014, 11.59pm (Singapore time). The rules can be found in the widget below as well.
