What to Wear on a Luxury Cruise so that You Feel and Look Great

What to Wear on a Luxury Cruise

The last time I went on a cruise was probably not less than 15 years ago. I was still a kid, and I remember being amused by the huge walking furry mascots we’d bump into every now and then, while exploring the ship (I think one of them might have been Donald Duck). Fast forward to now, I’m not so sure I’d love these characters as much as I might have used to.

I got the chance to visit Genting Dream when it docked in Singapore a few weeks back, and although there weren’t mascots to hug, there were tons more to explore. I hadn’t known what we’d be doing once we embarked, and so I planned an outfit (the night before, no less) that would fulfil the following criteria I had made up in my head:

  • easy to move around in
  • fitted the theme of “luxury”
  • classic
  • great for the heat outdoors
  • convenient for carrying my necessities around

And so, that’s how I ended up with my romper from Club Monaco, which I got on sale in New York, my trusty Rebecca Minkoff Mini Mac and a pair of Charles and Keith sandals.

I had such a great time exploring the wonders on board Genting Dream, and it was only after lunch that I found out that this cruise liner doesn’t actually dock in Singapore in its journeys. The one time it did, I got to experience it. I must have garnered some good karma in my past life.

So if you’d like to have fun watching their heart-stopping performances (think ballet dancer standing en pointe atop the shoulders of another acrobat), sunbathe on the outdoor deck, have tea in your own room while listening to the waves crash just below, enjoy red wine at dinner, watch movies in the cinema, be pampered at one of the spa treatments available and more, you’ll need to find a way to get onboard. Just check out their itineraries and make sure you’re in the location where they’re docking at so you can hop on (and off).

One of my favourite things about Genting Dream is that it’s got an entire Zouk in it. Yep, the club. And on weeknights, you’ll get to watch movies under the stars at the outdoor Zouk beach club. I don’t know if they do Mambo Night though, I didn’t get any news about that. But even if they don’t, being so close to your bed after a night of partying is such a relief.

The main reason to pack along your romper or jumpsuit when going on a luxury cruise is so that you can take part in all of these activities whenever you feel like it. You wouldn’t look out of place and you’d also be mobile enough to do whatever you please. Ditch the bulky bags in favour of something smaller and lighter – even a clutch would work. Finally, add in some of your classic jewellery (like the ones from Trouvée.Co) and you’re good to go.

Now tell me, what is your best cruise experience?

Love,

Roxanne
