Every once in a while, you find a product that makes you wonder what took you so long to find it. The Givenchy Matissime Velvet Radiant Mat Powder Foundation is one of those products for me.

The reasons I decided to jump in and go for this were:

  1. Dior discontinued the Diorskin Forever compact foundation, which I’d been using for years.
  2. I had switched to the Diorsnow compact foundation, but it doesn’t sit very well, now that I’m going off the pill and my skin is going haywire.
  3. Great reviews for this product (and the liquid foundation version) online.

I couldn’t wait to finish the photoshoot for this gem before I started using it – just like in the good old days. And after trying it out, I can say that this product rightfully earns all its good reviews.

It’s great as a touchup foundation, as it 100% takes the oil and shine away when I apply it with the sponge applicator. It smells slightly floral, which I find surprisingly pleasant in a compact. I also love the luxe compact design, though it’s easy to get fingerprints on it.

The best thing about this is that the shade I have, 05 Mat Honey, perfectly blends into my own skin tone. And I mean perfectly. It doesn’t even need to “settle” or anything. When I first applied it, I wasn’t even sure the product had gone onto my face – that level of perfect blending is what I’m talking about!

It has slightly buildable coverage, though nothing high. If you’re looking for a high coverage foundation, it’s better to first apply a liquid foundation and then layer this on with some slight dusting. My favourite way of wearing daily foundation is just a layer of dusting of any compact foundation with my Kabuki brush. That allows my skin to breathe and my freckles to show through! Nothing like character eh?

I bought mine at Sephora Ion (Singapore) and they only sell it with the case for S$82. No refills, so it seems you have to buy the entire product together with the casing. Maybe it’s different at Givenchy stores at department stores.

Do I recommend it? Yes if you have oily skin. Definitely check this amazing foundation out if you have the chance to!

Makeup is a breeze,
