Clinique

I’ve always wanted to do a mermaid look but never had the time to. This is especially so because to create an under-the-sea look, there is this unsaid need for props and not just makeup alone. I spent a total of 3 hours to get this one right from the start of my manicure, to selecting the colours to use, to trying to get the hair right, to the end of the shoot. I’m pretty satisfied with the way the look turned out but it could have been made even more complete with a wig of ash-brown hair.

But anyway, here are just a couple of pictures of the final look:

Mermaid blues, pearls, glittery nails and a turquoise flower in my hair.

    Again, with the D.I.Y. manicure.

For Face: Dior’s Diorskin Forever Compact Foundation in 020 Light Beige, Clinique’s Blushing Blush Powder Blush in 104 Carefree Coral, M.A.C.’s eyeshadow in Vanilla and E.L.F Cosmetics’ Contouring Blush and Bronzing Powder.

For Eyes: M.A.C.’s eyeshadows in Nylon and Blu-Noir; Mica Bella Cosmetics’ Shimmer Powder in 32 Tropic, L’Oreal’s HIP Bright Shadow Duo in 224 Showy (only the darker blue shade); Make Up For Ever’s eyeshadow in shade 83 and Paris Hilton’s Hollywood Glamour lashes by Elegant Touch.

For Brows: The darker shade of Paul & Joe’s Eyebrow Powder in 01.

For Lips: Hurraw’s Sun Protection Balm SPF 15, Becca Cosmetics’ Beach Tint in Watermelon and Gosh Cosmetics’ Light’N Shine Lip Glaze in 01.

I tried to adjust the lighting for this shoot but failed, so pardon the slight discrepency in the tones between the two pictures. On my face, I used no concealor and contoured only the sides of my nose. I also specially wore coloured contact lenses because, well, I don’t know any mermaid that hasn’t had her eyes tinted by the light in seawater. OK fine, I don’t know any mermaid, but I’m just referring to those I’ve seen pictures of. Anyhow I think coloured lenses give an overall ethereal feel and I like how it complements the entire look.

The pearls in the hair were inspired by Chanel’s SS 2012 runway theme (LOVE the setup, video below if you haven’t watched it yet). I got these pearl twirl-ins at H&M for S$6 for 6 pearls. A close-up feature of the nails can be found at my Nail of the Day entry here. So how do you like this mermaid look? Let me know what you think!
