I’ve been on the lookout for a lip balm stick with SPF and decided on this one from Korres, a brand that offers natural and certified organic products. The one I got is the colourless one with SPF 15 and it retails in stores at SGD$16 a pop. The lip butters from Korres also come in a pot form but I very much prefer not to use my fingers when I’m applying anything to my lips. Chapsticks are way more hygienic.
This balm applies smoothly and does not smell at all like “mandarin,” as the name suggests. It’s more of a creamy, buttery scent than anything. The product leaves behind a sheer milky finish, whose opacity depends on how much you layer it on, and is not truly colourless. I suspect that this sheen is due to the SPF factor and to me, it is more good than harm. I might leave the house with a little pale lips but that is still better than having brown, burnt ones from overexposure to the sun. Some plus points for this product are that it is free from parabens, mineral oils, silicone, propylene glycol and ethanolamine.
A funny thing though, and here I’d like to share my shopping experience at Korres. The sales assistant was really nice and explained that most (and which) items in the cosmetics range were on sale. When I asked about the lip butter sticks, she told me, among other things, that they don’t contain oil and so won’t clog pores. Hello? The last I remembered, lips don’t have pores! I was slightly amused but tried not to show it. I suppose sales assistants should remember what to say and when, instead of memorising the lines and repeating them for all the products.
