The Tale of the $40 Sephora Voucher

by Roxanne C.

Like Alice, I was not expecting any of that.

I managed to accumulate S$240 of purchases from Sephora and this entitled me to a S$40 voucher which I can use till the 31st of March 2012. I wanted to use it yesterday at one of the outlets in town but found out to my surprise that I could only use it for certain brands! I’d thought of using the voucher for my Diorskin Forever Compact Foundation refill but only realised I had to pay the full price when I was at the cashier. It would have been really nice if Sephora informed us shoppers about this beforehand! Anyway, the cashier gave me a slip of paper that lists the brands which are eligible and not eligible for redemption, and I’d like to share it here with you.

The Sephora S$40 voucher can only be used for the following brands:

1) Skincare

Sephora Skincare, Boscia, Bliss, Burt’s Bees, Caudalie, John Masters, Mario Badescu, Fresh, Ole Henriksen and Clarisonic.

2) Makeup

Sephora Makeup, Amazing Cosmetics, Bare Minerals, Urban Decay, Pop Beauty and Too Faced.

3) Bath & Body / Kids / Others

Sephora Bath & Body, Sephora Accessories, Soap & Glory and Fresh.

4) Haircare

Sephora Haircare, Frederic Fekkai, John Masters, Ouidad and Oscar Blandi.

5) Men’s

Sephora Men Skincare and Jack Black.

The voucher cannot be used for the following items:

Fresh’s Sugar Lover Set and Brown Sugar Social Set; Soap & Glory’s Peace Hand Love, Yum at Heart, Do a Bubble Take, Not Just a Pretty Case and Give Somebody Lip; Urban Decay’s Book of Shadows Vol. IV and Naked Palette; Burt’s Bees’ Simply Shimmer Trio Set, Tinted Shimmer Combo and Pampered Spa Set (Cranberry & Pomegranate and Honey & Shea Butter); Classic Lip Balm Tin Set, Caudalie’s Beauty from the Vine and Sephora’s Monoi Tiara Mini Set. The voucher is also not applicable for limited edition and promotional items.

I really wish that there had been some kind of information like this given to us shoppers and especially members of Sephora alike! I feel kinda cheated of my money because I had to end up paying S$66 instead of what I thought would be S$26 for the foundation. If I had known about this before shopping, I’d have spent my money on other things! For example, I could have been given this list when I’d already reached the minimum spending of S$240! Why was I not told at the time? There was at least one other shopper paying beside me who got the same slip of paper. I suppose she had bought something too, thinking that the voucher would cover it and then finding out that it didn’t. Anyway, I’m pretty pissed about it but now I still have to find something to buy before the end of the month. What would you get if you were me? Would you even get anything at all???

I feel so cheated as well!! I accumulated the $240 in the first place just because I thought I would still buy those stuffs in the future in anyway, so I thought why not purchase them in advance now and get the $40 voucher and buy anything I want. I was aiming to buy a MAC brush that costs SG$82, which would turn to $42 with the voucher. But nope!! I couldn't use the voucher for it and felt soooo ripped off!!! They should have informed us from the very beginning (i.e. on the $240 advertisement) that it can only be used for certain products. Not after we have accumulated the $240!
