Latest Rave and Review: Skin Street’s Sonic Cleanse (and Something Special for You)

by Roxanne C.

If there’s been one thing my skin has ever needed, it would surely have been one of those vibrating handheld devices that many people out there are raving about. Yes, I mean the Clarisonic and Skinsonic. But more recently, Skin Street came up with Sonic Cleanse, another skincare device that has proven to give the former two a run for their money.

New kid on the block: Sonic Cleanse.

The way Sonic Cleanse works is similar to Clarisonic and Skinsonic in the sense that the brush oscillates several hundred times per second to help in your cleansing ritual. This results in more exfoliation, more makeup removal and an increase in skincare product absorption after cleansing. To use it, simply wet your face and apply your cleanser all over. Then, attach the brush suited for your skin type and turn the device on. Apply the vibrating brush to your skin, spending about 20 seconds on the forehead, 20 seconds on the nose and chin and 10 seconds on each cheek. Avoid the delicate eye area, which should be cleansed prior to the rest of the face.

The entire set, including the 2 brushes (for normal and sensitive skin), sponge, device stand and wrinkle reducer.

The brush for sensitive skin has transparent bristles.

The sponge is used for application and spreading of moisturiser after cleansing. It can also be used in exfoliation.

The wrinkle reducer helps with problem areas like laugh lines and crow’s feet.

The brushes are easily detached, and click easily into place too. Totally idiot-proof.

If there’s one thing my skin has ever needed more, it would be the Sonic Cleanse. I’ve never tried the Clarisonic and Skinsonic so I cannot compare them. However, the Sonic Cleanse has managed to cleanse my skin like nothing before! I’m not exaggerating, honest! I am in love! Every time I use this in the evenings, my skin feels very thoroughly cleansed even though I use the same cleanser I’ve been using all along. I don’t get white heads anymore and breakouts… well, what breakouts? Because of the oscillations in the handset, dirt stuck deep in my pores is effectively removed and this is just only with the brush for sensitive skin. I haven’t tried the sponge with my exfoliator but seriously, I don’t see a need to.

I’ve found that the Sonic Cleanse works best when the brush is used wet. Although the manual recommends putting some cleanser onto the brush and then using the brush to go over your skin, I do it according to how I described it above. The Sonic Cleanse works on batteries and does not need recharging. You can simply replace the old batteries with new ones when you find that it doesn’t oscillate anymore. It also does not come with messy, confusing wires and cables, and this makes it a great travel friend.

The Sonic Cleanse is great as a stand-alone.

My skin is extremely sensitive, even with mild rosacea and all. But this product has done only wonders for it and not given me any bad reaction. It’s also way cheaper than the Clarisonic, which costs more than S$300 a set. The current price on Skin Street is S$98, which is slightly more expensive than the price at Sirius Beauty, which is about S$88 (inclusive of shipping).

However, I’ve a surprise for Laced Ivory’s readers! From 7th July 2012 till 20th July 2012, all of you get 20% off the Sonic Cleanse at Skin Street when you key in the code lacedivory20 at checkout. I recommend you get three additional brushes while you’re at it, since the brushes have to be replaced once every 90 days, and you get free local shipping when your purchase is more than S$100. A whole set with 3 extra brushes will last you a year, so it’s a good deal. Also, if you’re located in Singapore, you won’t have to wait as long for your product to arrive as compared to if you get the one from the States.

Do let me know in the comments below if you do indeed get one! If you already own a Sonic Cleanse, let me know what you think of it!

Decided to get the sonic cleanse after reading your review! Hope it leaves my skin sparking 🙂 May I know what batteries does it use? AA batt? Does it drain the batt very fast?

Hello Carol,

Yeah, it uses 2 AA batteries each time. I'm not sure if it drains them fast. I've been using it only since June and the batteries still work well. 😉
