A Mermaid’s Dream by Plush Nails

“Under the sea, under the sea! Darling it’s better, down where it’s wetter, take it from me!” – Sebastian the crab.

If mermaids had parties, this manicure is what they would look like. Dreamy, soft and pastel, yet glittery under the dispersed light there ever can be. But before I get ahead of myself, let me take you back to where it all started – Plush Nails.

I was invited to Plush Nails to try out their Journey Hand Spa Manicure treatment one fine afternoon. The salon is easy to find, seeing that it’s located in a large mall (313 @ Somerset). Looking up the store directory led me to the fourth floor, where Plush Nails was situated right beside the up-riding escalator.

A little waiting or consultation room with such cozy couches for you to relax on.

I began taking pictures before my spa session started. The interior of the salon is pretty cozy with an European feel, and each person has got her own big princess throne! The drapes are slightly shimmery and give that extra boost of a sense of royalty. I really like the little touches, like the principal chandelier and wallpaper design, here and there too. What I appreciate, as well, is the fact that the customers inside the salon are hidden away from shoppers outside, so we get some much-needed privacy.

As if you’re in a castle. Now where is the butler to get this fixed?

Dainty vintage clock never fails to tell you the time. I can stare at this all day.

Interesting concept for a wash basin.

Everything is sterilised – and thus, hygienic – before being used.

The Journey Hand Spa Manicure is done only with products that are organic and natural, which means that you don’t come into contact with harmful substances like parabens. It starts off with a spray to help you relax when you breathe in, followed by the normal routine of soaking your fingers in warm water and having your cuticles (and the hardened skin around the nails) removed. Then your nails are cut and shaped to your liking. I requested for a square cut, as it is more classic. And of course, if you’ve got nail polish on, it will be removed as well. After that, you’ll get a geranium-scented sugar hand scrub up till your elbows and an arm massage. I liked the part where Ginnie added pressure on my right hand, near the mount of Venus. A blogger like me really needed that!

Just a couple of the products that were used during the Journey Hand Spa Manicure. All the other products used were also from the same Spa Ritual range.

After the scrub and massage, a serum will be applied onto your arms. Finally, a moisturiser or cream is applied to lock in the hydration so your skin enjoys the maximum benefits. Now, it’s time to pick the colours for your manicure and watch as the magic happens!

I was presented with a whole range of shades to choose from and Ginnie suggested the salon’s latest collection from OPI. I decided to go with glitter on a light base. Interestingly, she applied a layer of primer, also from the Spa Ritual range, on my nails before starting on the base coat. After she had finished doing my nails, this was the outcome (you’re going to LOVE it):

Oh my trembling heart! Breathe, Roxanne, breathe.

My nails glitter, from every angle, the colour of sea rainbows! I can’t stop looking at them. It’s no secret that I love anything glittery and shimmery but this really takes the cake. Don’t you agree that it looks like a mermaid’s party? If I ever get married, I think I would like my nails to look like this again. Think about it, all that colour is going to stand out against the white gown, veil and shoes. It’s just too pretty for words. The shades used in this manicure are, in the order as shown (all are from the OPI 2013 collections):

1) OPI’s Don’t Burst my Bubble (pale cream base)

2) OPI’s Which is Witch (silver glitter flecks in various sizes and shapes)

3) OPI’s Polka.com (large glitter bits in various shades of blue and magenta)

Thank you Plush Nails for the spa treatment and manicure. Turns out, I bumped into a friend at the salon towards the end of my session. As she’s an air stewardess, she gave me this tip about taking flights: Don’t take one when you’re down with flu (unless you’ve got flu meds) because your ear drums may just burst while landing, and you can go deaf! Not a very comforting thought while I inhaled the relaxing mist to mark the end of the session, but it goes to show you learn something new everyday.

If you’ll like to drop by Plush Nails for some pampering, hop on over to 313 Orchard Road, #04-18, 313 @ Somerset, Singapore 238895. The salon can be reached by phone at 6235 8588, and all email enquiries can be sent to nailsinlove@hotmail.com.
